Your monthly bundle of ready‑to‑sow seeds and bulbs

February’s selection leans into the quiet promise of the first signs of spring - that point when the soil begins to stir, light returns, and early sowings set everything in motion. This month brings a beautifully balanced mix of elegant summer bulbs and generous annuals, chosen to give you height, movement, structure and abundance from early summer right through to autumn.  Everything complements the previous boxes seamlessly, but it also works perfectly as a one-off.

An elegant, airy quartet for graceful summer borders or containers

Selected to create a refined, sculptural summer display with height, movement and soft colour. These are plants that bees will flock to and they make wonderfully elegant cut flowers too.  Despite their sophisticated look, this is a hardy and reliable mix of bulbs and seeds - they love summer sunshine, but they're forgiving across different soil types and, with a little care (and hopefully cooperative weather), they'll perform beautifully together.

Galtonia candicans AGM — the Summer Hyacinth

These statuesque bulbs are one of the great underused treasures of the summer garden. Galtonia candicans sends up arching spires of white, bell‑shaped flowers that sway gently in the breeze and glow in evening light.  Plant the bulbs now into well‑drained soil or roomy containers, about 10–15cm deep, and they’ll reward you with graceful, fragrant blooms from midsummer onwards.

Larkspur ‘Frosted Skies’

Airy spires of semi-double white flowers with china-blue edges.  Sow the seeds now in a sheltered spot or under cover (or direct into the garden once the soil begins to warm).  They pair beautifully with the white bells of Galtonia and create a dreamy, meadow‑like rhythm through your planting.

Ammi majus ‘Graceland’ AGM

Ammi is the plant that makes everything around it look better.  ‘Graceland’ produces strong stems topped with lacy, white umbels that float above ferny foliage, softening edges and drawing in pollinators.  Sow now in a sheltered spot or under cover, and you can direct‑sow in spring for a second wave.  It’s superb for cutting, brilliant for wildlife, and the perfect companion plant.

Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’

A jewel‑toned bee magnet, this is one of the most characterful annuals you can grow. Cerinthe’s glaucous foliage and inky purple bracts bring a modern, sculptural note to your display, and bees absolutely adore it.  The large seeds are easy to sow now.  It threads beautifully through the Galtonia, Ammi and Larkspur, adding depth and contrast.

Dependable, richly flavoured leaves for months of easy harvests

Rhubarb Chard AGM

Chard is a brilliant alternative to spinach - it's less bitter and doesn't collapse into sogginess when it's cooked.  A generous packet of this hardy, flavour-packed variety gives you cut-and-come-again productivity over a long harvesting period.  Even if you're pushed for space, its ruby stems and glossy green leaves don't look out of place in ornamental beds.  Sow now either into seed trays/modules, or direct‑sow. Harvest regularly to keep young, tender leaves coming.  It's delicious both raw and lightly wilted.
